Established in April 17, 2012; City University (CU) is a Not-For-Profit foundation university located in Mogadishu, Somalia that is pioneering quality instruction, research, and service to Somalia and the broader region. The university consistently ranks among the top higher education institutions in Somalia and has a well-established track record in conducting experiential learning and evidence-based research providing practical policy recommendations to both the public and private sectors. CU prepares students for gainful employment and entrepreneurship through rigorous academic programs, internships and industry linkages. Our alumni manage the highest government offices and private sector and many secured Masters and PhD scholarships in some of the top universities in Canada, Japan, Italy, Ireland, Germany, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and more.

Accreditation & authorising body
The City University of Mogadishu (CU) is authorized by the Somali Federal Government Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher as a degree granting institution of higher learning. CU is accredited by the Federal Government of Somalia National Commission of Higher Education (NCHE).
AHEEN Involvement
The City University of Mogadishu is providing three programs for the first year. A foundational certificate program covering English Language and other required courses for a one year certificate program. An MS in Agribusiness and Value Chain Development and a Master of Social Work (MSW) with a focus on Mental Health Counselling.
Both Masters level programs are new to Somalia. Of particular importance is the fact that these high-end programs are particularly out of reach of most citizens and particularly for the members of the Refugee and IDP communities in and around Mogadishu.
An important consideration in the selection of the agribusiness and value chain development services is that it is not taught in the country, although ours is an agriculture based economy. Like many other African countries, the knowledge of connecting farms and farmers with businesses and consumers is an important component of encouraging sustainable farming and food security.
Similarly, mental health counselling is sorely needed in a society exposed to continuous traumas for the past 30 years and without trained counsellors locally available or offering services in most parts of the country.
