This course is designed to equip a learners with the competencies required to understand computer security, perform computer repair and maintenance, perform computer networking, install software, understand the working of database management systems, understand the working of the internet and web design, attain basic programming skills and also be able to analyse and evaluate the working of an information system. This course is offered in the Department of Computing & Information Science in the School of Pure and Applied Sciences of Kenyatta University. The rationale of the Diploma in Information Technology (DIT) programme is to provide a career path for learners who wish to develop their core competencies in any of the fields in the wide area of Information Technology (IT). The outcome of the course should be to give a strong foundation before the learner can Specialize in various pathways of IT. The programme also aims to prepare learners for industry IT skills Requirements. The programme also targets to enrich those already working in the IT sector with required IT skills going by the current trends.

Entry requirements
Mean grade C- at KCSE or equivalent with at least C- in Mathematics and English.
OR
Mean grade of D+ at KCSE and at least C- in both Mathematics and English with Certificate in related field from recognized institution.

Course Duration: 2 years
Credits: 18 Credits
Units’ distribution:
- Year 1 Semester 1 = 5 units (5 credits)
- Year 1 Semester 2 = 5 Units (5 credits)
- Year 2 Semester 1 = 5 Units (5 credits)
- Year 2 Semester 2 = 3 Units (3 credits)
Modules
The diploma in Information technology has 24 units/modules to be completed by the student.
Learning environment
The student will engage in e-learning, Google meet tutorials, practical exercises, discussion forums, quizzes group work and Presentations, individual and group assignments, independent learning, Library and internet search.
Assessment
- The common regulations for the University Examinations shall apply.
- The course grading will be by continuous assessment tests which will account for 30%.
- End of semester examination will account for 70%.
- Minimum pass mark will be 40%
